The founding of Phelan’s goes back to 1938. Originally called Patek Paint, and then Cedar Rapids Paint, we sold paint and supplies to retail clients and lumberyards. In 1957 the store was renamed to Cedar Rapids Paint and Design Studio as furniture and design services were added to our mix. In the 1960s, Paul Phelan Sr. purchased the company from his father-in-law and we added wall coverings and décor to the store offerings. The company was officially renamed to Phelan’s Interiors in 1982 when it moved to its current location on the corner of Third Avenue and Seventh Street in downtown Cedar Rapids. Corporate design work was incorporated into Phelan’s business model in 1985 and we have seen growth ever since.
